I have dual graphics cards (Intel graphics and NVIDIA) but I was able to use the preferred NVIDIA graphics card under my graphics settings and it allowed the Sims 2 to run beautifully on Windows 8. Then go to the Advanced tab and type in -w in order to make the game launch in windowed mode. Then apply the changes. Once you click play, it might take a while, but the game will launch in a small square window.
