WebApr 4, 2024 · Texas Guy, the specs for the barrel hood on a .45 are different than on a 9mm so that particular drawing doesn't show the spec I need. Sailorman, the rear of the barrel hood fits right up against the slide breech. It's pretty tight in that direction. It's the side-to-side fit at the rear of the barrel that seems pretty loose. WebAug 14, 2010 · The O1991 model continued to use the wide hood as well until around 1999 or so. Avoid the temptation to replace everything on your brand-new 1911 just to make it "better". Know what you're changing out and why. You may spend a lot of money fixing things that weren't broken to begin with.

When there is more than .003" of gap between the hood and the breech face, I will weld up the barrel hood so there is just slight contact with the breech.

WebJun 3, 2024 · I am most nervous of fitting the hood, filling it straight and maintaining the the 0.003 side clearance, and the 0.001 back clearance. The instructions say to file the back of the hood parallel to the breach face until it doesn't drag during unlocking, But the 1911 manual talks about 0.001 clearance off the face of the breach.

Kart sends a .003” feeler gauge to make sure that it fits on the left and right side of the back of the barrel hood, but also to make sure it DOES NOT fit between the barrel hood and breech face.
